The process is:

  1. A removal motion signed by 100 members (Lok Sabha) or 50 members (Rajya Sabha) is given to the Speaker/Chairman.
  2. Speaker/Chairman may admit or refuse the motion.
  3. If admitted, a three-member committee is constituted to investigate.
  4. Committee consists of (a) chief justice or a Supreme Court judge, (b) chief justice of a high court, and (c) a distinguished jurist.
  5. If guilty, the House considers the motion.
  6. If passed by special majority in each House, an address is presented to the President.
  7. President passes an order removing the judge.
